Resized Image Samples
A guide for selecting your image size
As discussed on our page dedicated to free image resizing software,
it can be difficult to know how large or small to make your files for
email, posting on the web, or watching on a digital
photo frame. This is compounded by the fact that
you do not know how the image will look on another computer, since
monitors can be set to display at different resolutions.
However, the photos below should help shed some light on how to scale down your images.
These sample images have been resized from a 4" x 6" print scanned
at 600dpi, which produced an image roughly equivalent to a
picture taken by a 8 megapixel digital camera. Although an
image
of
this size captures a lot of detail and is great
for making large prints, it is too big to fit on most computer
screens. The original image was about 5.3 MB and the
dimensions
were 3430 x 2388, which is far too large for many email
services
and would take a long time to load regardless.
To make our picture more email and web friendly, we
have resized it into several sizes with Fast Image Resizer
to produce the examples below, which should help you decide how large
to make your pictures before emailing them.

Image Size: 320x240
File Size: 20KB

Image Size: 640 x 480
File Size: 61KB
As you can see if you clicked on the above link, a 800 x 600 image is probably
relatively large on your monitor. Depending on what your
image's
subject is, a smaller image may be just as effective and much more
convenient.
